Ceiling Storage Units – Affordable & Effective

The average size of an American home is 2094 square feet. That’s not a bad chunk of land to store all of our stuff. However, it wasn’t until about 2009 when the average size of an American home began to decrease. For the past 30 years, there has been a steady increase in square footage for each American home owner. What’s the reason for this decrease, you ask? Well, some say that it is because of this current economic recession leading to the increase in home foreclosures and the decision of homeowners to move into smaller more affordable homes that have many of us moving into smaller living spaces. However, there is an upside to this forced lifestyle change that has actually helped us to be more aware of two important things: energy and space.

Living in a big home, most of us will notice that we end up treating our homes like storage units. The more space we have, the more things we buy. For those of us who have transitioned into smaller homes we realize that a lot of the stuff we own was unimportant. After tossing out the old and bringing in new things like overhead garage storage units and even flat screen televisions, we have learned to better utilize our living space. This adaptation to space is a positive change in lifestyle because we are now living with the things that are important and shedding away that which is not.

Advances in technology transformed our household appliances such as refrigerators, water heaters and air conditioning units into appliances that now save enormous amounts of energy. The introduction of affordable double-paned windows, upgraded ventilations systems and new roofing materials has also helped to drop energy waste. Today’s economy has made life a bit harder for many of us, but this economic change may have helped us reform our lifestyles, and maybe, for the better. Not only are we saving more money by being more energy efficient, but we are also becoming more responsible regarding space utilization by doing things like using ceiling storage units to help with space management and discarding the things we do not need.

Currently, it is safe to say that a lot of Americans have in their consciousness the need to be efficient financially, spatially and with energy. The recent economic downturn has, in a strange way, helped to get us back in touch with ourselves and to better understand what it is we truly need in our lives. Most of us will realize we do not need unnecessary space and mounds of stuff. If we look very carefully, we will notice that within the past few years, many doors have closed in our lives, while many new ones have opened. In the end, we are beginning to understand what it truly means to “have everything,” and in a sense, we already do. So, if you are renovating your life, here is a list of things you might want to consider looking into in order to utilize space, save money, and be more energy efficient:

  • Energy Star appliances
  • Newer Air condition units (they are a bit pricey, but worth the savings)
  • Overhead garage storage units
  • Double paned glass windows
  • Mountable televisions
  • Energy saving light bulbs
